New Skill Centre Launch: IHCL and MP Tourism Board Collaborate to Empower Youths in Gwalior
In an exciting development for the hospitality sector, the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has teamed up with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board to inaugurate a skill centre at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) in Gwalior. This initiative is aimed at nurturing the talent of local youths, particularly those from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, with a focus on empowering women. The skill centre will provide a mix of short-term and long-term courses in hospitality education, adhering to the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), co-developed with Tata STRIVE. This collaboration marks a significant step in providing industry-relevant knowledge to the youth, enabling them to secure employment and pursue entrepreneurship in the hospitality sector.
Training the Next Generation
The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, serving as the nodal department for this initiative, has embarked on a mission to equip young individuals from various tourist zones in the state with essential skills. This initiative is not just about education; it’s about opening new doors for the youth, allowing them to become integral players in the tourism and hospitality industry.
A Partnership for Progress
Puneet Chhatwal, the CEO of IHCL, has expressed keen enthusiasm for this partnership, highlighting it as a stride towards building a skilled workforce under IHCL’s ESG+ framework of Paathya. He points out the immense untapped potential in the region and views this skill development initiative as a beacon for progress. The focus is on making the local community, especially women, partners in developing the state’s tourism sector.
Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, and Ameya Vanjari, Head of Operations at Tata STRIVE, have both underlined the importance of this initiative. They envision it as a pioneering step in ‘Responsible Tourism’ and a testament to empowering local communities, with a particular spotlight on women’s empowerment. This partnership between IHCL, Tata STRIVE, and the Madhya Pradesh government is poised to pave the way for many fruitful ventures in the future, reinforcing the bond within the state’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
